LHEF Grant Program
What is the Grant Program?
The Grant Program provides teachers and administrators the opportunity to apply for grants that will support creative and innovative programs, equipment and technology in the Long Hill Township School District. The total amount funded each year through the LHEF grant program depends on the budget that is available each year. The Grant Program looks to support a balanced portfolio of grants across disciplines, grade levels and schools.

Teacher/Staff Request Guidelines
The LHEF encourages all faculty to use this program to enhance the educational and classroom experience for all students. This is a wonderful opportunity for the LHEF to address current teacher and student needs that might otherwise be put aside due to lack of funds. The annual Teacher/Staff Request budget is $25,000. Teacher requests under $500 are considered at all monthly meetings through May of the current school year. Requests for $500 or more will be due by October 1 and by March 1 for consideration on an annual basis. Time will be set aside on the agenda to discuss any requests. Teachers are encouraged to be present at the meeting to offer any additional information and also to answer any questions that arise.
Procedure
- Request forms must be submitted to the LHEF at least one week prior to the scheduled monthly meeting on the second Tuesday of each month, enabling them to be included on the agenda that is posted in advance of all meetings. If the request is not received one week prior to the scheduled meeting, it will not be presented until the next month. The forms can be found on the LHEF website or in the office at each of the schools. The LHEF monthly meeting schedule is located on the LHEF Website.
- Discuss the request with your administrator to see if school funding is available.
- Check several resources, and recommend the best price and supplier. Note: We are tax-exempt so do not include sales tax in the price, but do include shipping and handling. Attach a copy of the best price you have found, be it from a catalog or website.
- Complete the form and submit it to your school principal for approval. If it is curriculum related, please also submit to the Director of Curriculum for approval.
- Once approval has been granted, place the form and any attachments in an envelope labeled “Teacher/Staff Request – LHEF.” In addition, please inform LHEF at lhedfoundation@longhill.org that you have submitted a request.
- The LHEF Board will notify you as to whether your request was approved; and if so, the exact handling of the money, receipts, etc. in coordination with the business office of the Board of Education.

What is Excluded From Grant Funding?
- Grants that replace or relieve existing responsibility for public funding of school programs, or are for compulsory curriculum items that are the purview of the Board of Education (e.g. textbooks).
- Programs/technologies/equipment that have been previously funded or initiated at your school by any source. If, however, the program/technology/equipment is new to your school but has been previously funded by the LHEF at another school in the district and was successful, you are encouraged to apply for a grant.
- Basic equipment and furniture; including typical computers, tablets, printers, photocopiers, projection screens, monitors, bookshelves, desks, tables, and rugs. (Grant applications that would use "basic" items in an innovative or transformative way may be considered.)
- Routine consumable supplies that are traditionally provided by other sources.
- Food and transportation.
The above funding guidelines represent guiding principles of the LHEF. However, it is within the LHEF’s discretion to provide or not provide funding, which differs from these guidelines.
